The National Memorial Day Parade, presented by the American Veterans Center, is held annually in Washington DC, and is an opportunity for thousands of patriotic Americans to come together and honor those who have sacrificed so much in service to our country.
The event celebrates all those who have served in uniform from the American Revolution to Operation Iraqi Freedom, and seeks to educate the public about the meaning of this hallowed day.
The National Memorial Day Parade stepped off at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Streets, NW. It will proceed west down Constitution, past the White House, ending at 17th Street.
The parade featured celebrity veterans and veterans supporters, including:
- Grand Marshal J.R. Martinez
- Honorary Grand Marshals U.S. Army veterans Robert Griffin Jr. and Jacqueline Griffin, along with Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III
- Actors Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna
- Musical performances by Taylor Hicks (American Idol season 5 winner), Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan, and country music star Trace Adkins
- Veterans of the legendary Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American aviators in U.S. military history.
- "Ace" pilots of the Korean War
- Nearly 1,000 active duty service members from the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
