Indianapolis is in the Nine-County Region of Indiana, right at the center of the state. It is the state capital and largest city of
Indiana, US, and is in Marion County. Indianapolis is also known as the Racing Capital of the World due to the proximity of the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500 and Allstate 400 at the Brickyard (formerly known as the Brickyard 400).

The name Indianapolis is simply Indiana joined with polis, the Greek word for city. It is called the Crossroads of America. The city is warm in the summer, with average highs in the mid-80s in June, July,and August.

It is Indianas largest city and is the 14th largest city in the U.S., the third largest city in the Midwest (behind Chicago and Detroit), the second most populous state capital (after Phoenix, Arizona). It is one of two state capitals that share their names with their states (The other is Oklahoma City).

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), located in Speedway, Indiana, is the site of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race (also known as the Indy 500), an open-wheel automobile race held each Memorial Day weekend on a 2.5 miles (4.0 km) oval track. The Indy 500 is the largest single-day sporting event in the world, hosting more than 257,000 permanent seats (not including the infield area). The track is often referred to as the Brickyard, as it was paved with 3.2 million bricks shortly after its construction in 1909. Today the track is paved in asphalt although a section of bricks remains at the start/finish line.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame , Located inside the home of the Indy 500, this is the worlds largest collection of racing, classic, and antique cars. Check out 30 of the Indy 500 winners cars, a 20 minute film about the history of the race, a gift shop and cafe. You also can pay a few bucks to ride in a bus around the actual race track (at about 40 miles an hour, ha!).
