Located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain range, Truckee is just 200 miles northeast of San Francisco, 100 miles east of Sacramento, and 32 miles west of Reno, Nevada. This highly coveted proximity and centralized location for a mountain town make it an ideal place to live, work and play.

Just off of I-80 and 12 miles to Lake Tahoe, Truckee is a portal to world class recreation in every direction. Adventure and nature lovers arrive via trains, planes, automobiles, and buses, bikes and backpacking trails.

Once arriving in Truckee, there are endless possibilities for outdoor fun, whether a few minutes away at Donner Lake State Recreation area, 12 miles away at Lake Tahoe or at one of many easily accessible Alpine or Nordic ski resorts. Achieving a quiet hike, mountain bike ride, swim or fishing outing is possible even during high seasons by venturing north on 89 to the Pacific Crest Trail toward Jackson Meadows, or to one of many trails, creeks, and lakes off the beaten track in Truckee’s backyard.

Truckee has often been recognized as the coldest spot in the nation, but not during the winter ski season as one might expect. These nippy temperatures are noteworthy because they occur from June through early October.
