The Prince Georges County Fair began in 1842 as a friendly gathering for local farmers to showcase their produce and livestock and have a little fun. The oldest running Fair in Maryland!

Though it started out as mostly livestock and field crops, eventually it came to include womens arts as well, with competitions for the best jams, jellies, canned goods, pies, breads, cookies, clothing, quilts, and handicrafts. It was (and is) quite an honor to be deemed the best in the County!

Did you know they still hold competitions in all these areas plus photography, fine arts, woodworking, basket making, flower arranging, and more? The Open Class area accepts entries from any of the 5 Southern Maryland Counties and also from our District of Columbia neighbors. Theres no charge to enter your work, and the top three winners in each class receive a ribbon and a small monetary award.

Friends and neighbors, join them at the County Fair. Everyone is welcome to get into the fun and festivites. Theres plenty of things to see and just as many things to do.

If your little one is three-years-old or younger, you might consider entering them in the BEAUTIFUL BABY CONTEST.

There is a variety of ENTERTAINMENT and ATTRACTIONS available, from magic, to dance, to pig and duck races. There is a horse pull competition, a chain saw artist, a Kountry K-8 performance, a marionette show, and more, more, more.

Also, this year, they are proud to help promote the MD CHIP program. The Child Identification Program (CHIP) collects basic identification data for each child in your family and provides you with a permanent record on paper and on a CD.

And dont forget the CARNIVAL, where your family can enjoy the rides or maybe play a game and win a prize.

The FAIR is located at the Prince Georges Equestrian Center and the Show Place Arena, near the intersection of Pennsyvania Avenue (MD Route 4) and US Route 301 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. There is plenty of FREE parking and free shuttle buses are provided at the Fair.

If you are a county student working toward your Community Service hours, the County Fair would be a good place to earn them.
But they can use VOLUNTEERS of all ages to help, starting on Labor Day and continuing throughout the Fair.

PG County is located in the U.S. state of Maryland, immediately north, east, and south of Washington, D.C. As of 2008 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, it had a population of 820,852 and was the wealthiest county in the nation with an African-American majority.

The county was named for Prince George of Denmark (1653 to 1708), the brother of King Christian V of Denmark and Norway, and husband of Queen Anne of Great Britain.

The county is a part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area.
