Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple of greater Chicago, 1145 W. Sullivan Rd, Aurora, IL 60506.

Thousands of devotees from the Midwestern states, especially from Chicago land used to travel to Pittsburgh to have darshan of Sri Venkateswara swami. While the experience was spiritually rewarding, the time and effort required to make the trip was making it difficult for many to have his darshan as often as their hearts desired. Many felt a void in their spiritual lives and their discontent was wide spread. The state of affairs continued until 1985. As a result of philanthropy of nine families who donated 20 acres of land with a farm house in Aurora (a far west suburb of Chicago), as a site for the proposed Balaji temple, a beginning was made in the realization of a dream of many. Since Sri Venkateswara swami (Balaji) temple is an institution that has to serve innumerable generations to come, plans were drawn on a magnificent scale related to the means available and the needs of the moment.

The temple is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Canteen Hours - Every Day 9:30am-8:30pm

Deities at the Sri Venkateswara Swami temple include Lord Balaji, Goddess Sri Devi, Goddess Bhoodevi, Lord Ganesh, Lord Subrmania Swami, Lord Siva Mahadeva and Goddess Parvathi.

Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago, 10915 Lemont Rd, Lemont, IL - 60439.

The Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago, established in 1977. It became a full-fledged functional house of worship in 1986.

Thousands of Hindu families migrated from India to the United States from the early 1960s seeking higher education and challenging careers. As the families grew and settled down, it became apparent that there was a necessity to actively encourage the continuation of traditional Indian religious and cultural values. Several Asian Indian organizations arose during this period, providing some cultural avenues, but there was no religious institution which Hindus could call "home."

The HTGC complex includes two separate temples:

The Rama Temple, which includes Sri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana; Lord Ganesha, Sri Hanuman, Lord Venkateshwara (Balaji), Mahalakshmi, Sri Krishna and Radha.

The Ganesha-Shiva-Durga Temple, which includes, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Durga Devi, Lord Subrahmanya, Devi Parvathi, and Navagraha.

The complex provides a congenial atmosphere for worship and spiritual advancement. It also serves as a focal point cultural and educational activities.

Temple Tours are available every day from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM for a group of 3 or more people by prior appointment.

A group of 30 people or more can request an alternate time.

The temple is open seven days a week, from 9 am to 9 pm. Temple Kitchen is open only on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am - 9 pm

The Rama temple is built to specifications in the authentic style of the Chola dynasty (a 10th century dynasty of Indian Kings).

A smaller temple north of the Rama temple is the Ganesha-Shiva-Durga temple. This temple is built in the architecture style of the Kalinga dynasty (1st century B.C.).
